George, our illustrious roaster Handling Coffee to ensure
freshness and quality

Simply the best way to handle coffee, is to treat it like gold. Don't let it stand in the heat no matter what! Don't expect it to last long if you do not drink it often, this does not mean that coffee doesn't have a shelf life but you must understand, if you are to treat yourself to good coffee, you must store it properly to ensure that it will not lose flavor through mishandling or insufficient storage. Coffee will start to lose it's flavor after only 2 days after being ground.

To store coffee effectively, it is recommended that first of all, don't buy it in quantities that would last you a year. Buy it frequently in moderate amounts, this way you will be assured of freshness everytime. Peak condition of your coffee will only last you about 2 weeks if stored in a cool and dark place and only 4 weeks when sealed and frozen therefore it is better to order frequently rather than in quantity. We will take standing orders for customers who wish to receive their coffee on time everytime without having to go through the ordering process everytime. Just email us with your request and we will get back to you with details.

Make sure you store in a cool place. If your house is warm, you might keep it in the fridge but be sure to wrap it or seal it so that moisture does not get in. Also store it in a dark cool place, use a sealable container and place beans in your refrigerator or freezer. Only grind enough coffee beans for what you need just prior to using them.

Always buy your coffee direct from the roaster (us of course) to ensure that your coffee is always fresh even before you start. This ensures that at the time of your order being received, your coffee will have been roasted no more than 48 hours previous to your order. This is the closest that you can get to freshness other than picking and roasting the fruit yourself.
